Russell at Istanbul Boy’s High School

Small article and two photos of Russell during the filming of The Water Diviner at Erkek Boy’s High School in Istanbul in late February this year.  The film is about the young men who served with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and fought in the Battle of Gallipoli, never to come home. Russell plays the father who seeks the truth about his missing sons. The ANZAC troops have a shared history and fate with many former students of this school.

The caption says that there was a football game the same day as his visit. Russell wished the team luck and wore the Istanbulspor scarf the students gave him while chatting and posing for photos.

Thanks to Mine Gursel for her always superior translation.
