In an interview with the WSJ, Warwick Ross talks about his film, Red Obsession. Here is an excerpt that concerns Russell’s involvement (ed again: I was wrong and have been corrected in the comments – Mr. Ross was entirely correct about which film Russell was working on when he recorded RO and I apologize for casting aspersions on Mr. Ross’s memory. -MM):
Russell Crowe is your narrator. How did he get involved?
He loves his wine, loves his Bordeaux. He’s a friend of my executive producer. Russell was on the top of my list for narrators.
To my amazement, Russell said he’d like to do it. But he was finishing “Les Misérables” and it didn’t look like he’d have any time. Then Hurricane Sandy closed down Manhattan, and he was off for a day. He ended up recording the whole thing between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., just hours before our deadline. I owe him a bottle of great wine.
